The sound of two hands typing
Oct. 17th, 2021 04:03 pmI'm sure, really sure, it will get worse before it gets better but we just pulled the pain block catheter out and all that tape and tubing is gone so I'm way happier about that. And I can take a shower. It will be a while before I can lift anything but I have my arm in a sling and put it on the desk and can type with it so that's better. My first PT is tomorrow. I'll get all the rules and the ways I can increase my pain by doing therapy exercises then.
So much nicer than getting a knee replacement. The doc said there was one bone fragment floating around my shoulder joint that was the size of a marble so I had reason for the whole pain thing before. Now it is all cleaned up and shiny and new.
There was a guy who looked about my age across from me in preop. As they wheeled his bed away he looked over, flashed a peace sign response to the one I waived at him and said 'getting old ain't for sissies'. It was a good parting line and he was probably getting a similar procedure.
I went for a walk today around the block with Zoe. As long as I don't put the leash in my left hand all is well. Zoe is the perfect one for such walks and is not going to run off and understand 'leave it' even if it is a squirrel so it is safe.
Tomorrow or Tuesday I'll get up at the usual time and take her on our usual walk. I figure as long as I don't fall it is safe and with one arm in a sling I'd need to be more careful around stairs and such but I think it will work well. Zoe and I both need it.
So all is well. To those of you sending me notes wishing me well, thanks. They worked.
On top of that the Jax Jaguars won across the pond. They needed it and deserved it and they have a hero kicker who just had the best day in his life.

Date: 2021-11-08 01:01 am (UTC)It sounds like there is a lot of work for you and your mom to take care of your dad right now. And you are correct it does sound unreasonable to sit with him eight hours a day. I hope it's time it becomes much easier to do the the dressing changes.

Date: 2021-11-08 01:48 am (UTC)It's harder than I expected especially since my dad is not very mobile. I did wound care for a close friend before, but she didn't have any mobility issues. Our CNA is younger and stronger than my mom and me, but that's what we pay her for.

Date: 2021-11-09 07:00 pm (UTC)My mom is now paying our CNA to come three times per day, so she's doing it. That makes it easier!
